This (Wednesday) morning, the Indiana County Commissioners approved an agreement with Salsgiver, Inc. to construct, operate and maintain a fiber-optic based broadband internet network to help unserved and underserved areas of the county.
The lines will be installed in North, West and South Mahoning Townships, Cherryhill Township, Center Township, Cowanshannock Township, along with four public access Wi-Fi locations that will be determined at a later time. The total project will cost $2,315,395 and funding will come through one or more federal, state and local sources, including CDBG-Covid-19 Grants, Appalachian Regional Commission Partnerships for Opportunity, the Keystone Communities Program and other areas.
Byron Stauffer with the Office of Planning and Development talks about how many people this project is expected to serve.
Stauffer said that the project could start as soon as this spring.
In other business, the Commissioners authorized the county’s Parks and Trails office to sell the 15 remaining light displays that were part of the annual Festival of Lights. These are some of the larger displays from the attraction that ran for many years at Blue Spruce Park. Many of those displays were already purchased by municipalities for their continued use.
