The White Township Supervisors last night distributed the funds they received from the Foreign Fire Insurance Tax Money Disbursement.
The Township will receive $87,009 from the disbursement. Traditionally, Indiana Fire Association would receive 90% of that funding, while Creekside Fire Department would get the rest, but Supervisor George Lenz said he would like to see more go to Creekside as they might see more people moving into the area. The township put a new septic system in an area of the township, and Lenz is expecting that area to grow in housing and population. Since the area is in Creekside’s coverage area, and the township is partly responsible for the new septic system, he feels that the township may be indirectly responsible for the proposed population growth and increase in need for money for the fire department.
In the end, the board decided that the traditional split would be maintained, with Creekside receiving $8,700 and Indiana Fire association receiving the rest, but the township said they may consider increasing funding for the Creekside fire department as part of their budget discussions. Speaking of the Township Budget, a budget workshop will be held on November 9th at 1:30. The budget is due to be passed at one of the Township’s December meetings, but will need preliminary approval in November.
