A meeting set for tonight in the Blairsville-Saltsburg School District for the board to consider removing Superintendent Tammy Whitfield has been cancelled.
The meeting, set for 6:00 PM at the Blairsville Sr. High Library, was cancelled due to scheduling conflicts within the board. Board Secretary Alice Santoro said the meeting will be rescheduled, but the date has not been finalized.
The meeting will address Whitfield’s future with the district. Whitfield has been on suspension since November 1st of 2016, when she was suspended with pay. Her suspension was made an unpaid suspension a month later. The board has not officially stated why they have suspended Whitfield, but she has said in reports that she feels the suspension is retaliation for her suggestion of consolidating the schools in the district. Sicne her suspension, Whitfield has filed a lawsuit against the district and five of its board members for violating the state’s whistle-blower laws. That lawsuit seeks unspecified damages for pain, suffering and emotional distress, back pay, and reinstatement as the superintendent.
