The IUP women’s 19-game winning streak came to a halt last night with a 57-52 loss at California University.
This is the fourth time since 2010 that the Vulcans have snapped a long IUP winning streak.
Twenty -one turnovers helped to hand the Crimson Hawks only their second loss in 23 outings. Justina Mascaro led the IUP scorers with 20 points, while Lexi Griggs and Maura D’Anna each grabbed 10 rebounds.
IUP holds a game and a half lead on Gannon, which will visit IUP on Saturday night.
The IUP men played an inspired game with a hard-fought 79-70 win, besting California for their 20th win of the season. It is the 12th consecutive year of 20 wins or more for the men’s program.
A late 23-9 run led the Crimson Hawks to the victory, which gave them a three-game lead in the standings with five games to play.
Five players were in double figures, highlighted by Armoni Foster with 24 points. Freshman Ethan Porterfield scored 14 points, while Shawndale Jones and David Morris each tallied 14. Chuckie Humphfries scored 10 points and pulled down 16 rebounds.
With five points, Malik Miller surpassed Hall of Famer Randy Allen on the all-time scoring list.
