A member of Blairsville Borough Council and the president of the Blairsville Underground Railroad Association are spearheading efforts to bring a cable TV network program to Blairsville and makeover the entire town.
According to a news release, David Janusek of borough council and Denise Jennings-Doyle are spearheading efforts to enter Blairsville into a nationwide contest through HGTV that would bring the show “Home Town Rescue” to Blairsville. A volunteer group with the help of IUP’s communications media department produced a short video that would sell HGTV that the town needs the help of Ben and Erin Napier of the series “Home Town”, and the application has been submitted. The requirements for the show is that the town needs to have a population of 40,000 or less, homes that have great architecture, and a main street that needs fixing.
Janusek said that the application to the TV show has brought an interest to the town and to the desire of its citizens to help improve the town in many different ways.
The winning town will be featured in a six-episode series that would air on HGTV, where the Napiers would rehab multiple structures and public spaces. No word on when the winning town will be selected.
