Drivers using the PA Turnpike will see another hike in toll prices starting next week.
According to a news release from the Turnpike Commission, the most common passenger car toll will increase by 10 cents from $1.70 to $1.80 on Sunday, while Toll-By-Plate drivers will see a 30-cent increase from $4.10 to $4.40.
Officials with the Turnpike Commission attribute the increase in prices to the need to meet funding and capital-improvement obligations.
Those looking to avoid paying toll fees may want to reconsider as a new law went into effect this week suspending registrations for PA vehicle owners who owe $250 or more in turnpike fees. Anyone operating a car with a suspended registration could face penalties such as:
- A mandatory, three-month driver’s license suspension;
- Fines of up to $500, plus court costs;
- Auto-insurance policy cancellations and higher premiums; and
- A record of the violation on the owner’s driving history.
This marks the 15th consecutive year that turnpike tolls will increase.
