BOYS BASKETBALL
River Valley hosted Homer-Center last night in a Heritage Conference West matchup, and the Panthers got the win. Jake Slebodnick reports.
Panthers coach Don Stitt said his team shined against Homer-Center.
Senior Cole Kennedy-Citeroni finished with 16 points. He said one reason for the win was strong team chemistry.
Undefeated United rolled into West Shamokin last night and cruised past the Wolves, 73-33. Brad Felix led the Lions with 16 points. Joe Marino had 15 and Isaac Worthington added 10. No Wolves hit double figures in the game. United is 11-0 overall, and 6-0 in the Heritage Conference. They play Marion Center tomorrow night on U92 and follow it up with two games against the two top teams in the East, Penns Manor next Thursday and undefeated Portage the following Wednesday.
Penns Manor and Portage battled last night and the Mustangs prevailed, 67-63, handing the Comets their first conference loss of the season. The Mustangs’ big man, Luke Scarton, led the way with 20 points and Andrew Miko scored 14. Mason Kargo had 11 and 8 assists, a lot of them off feeds down low for Scarton. Max Hill scored 23 for Penns Manor. Ashton Courvina added 11 and Mark Bagley and Kolton Kerchensky each scored 10. Portage was coming off its first loss of the season, to Windber on Tuesday night. They are 11-1 and 6-0 in the Heritage Conference. Penns Manor was also coming off a loss, to Berlin Brothersvalley on Tuesday night. The Comets fell to 6-4, and 4-1 in the conference.
Cambria Heights beat Northern Cambria, 48-33. Carter Lamb had 16 points and Chris Sodmont had 14 for the Highlanders. Peyton Myers scored 12 for the Colts.
WRESTLING
The Indiana High wrestlers picked up another Section win last night, dominating Ligonier Valley, 51-11. Winners for the Indians were Nico Fanella, Carter Putt, Jacob Snyder, Will Turner, Rocco Cosentino, Dominic Fanella, Michael Dolan, Alvin Liu, Griffin Prebish and Graham McFarlane . The Indians are 3-2, 3-0 in the section.
