The number of lab-confirmed flu cases in Indiana County rose to 445 for the season in the past week. That’s an increase of 86 cases from the previous week, when it had gone up by 56 from the week before.
Our neighbors continue to suffer from the flu as well. Jefferson County was up 50 to 353; Cambria County increased by 69, to 1,126; Clearfield County was also up 69, to 455. Armstrong County added 72 new cases, to stand at 369; Westmoreland County has had 2,281 cases, an increase of 262.
295 of Indiana County’s flu cases have been Type B; 150 have been Type A. The flu season is measured from the first week of October.
Across the commonwealth, there was a 24 percent increase in flu cases last week, and there were seven more deaths, bringing the season total to forty. The state does not report where the deaths occurred.
