Today is the annual Grocers Fight Cancer day at Giant Eagle in Indiana.
The daylong event will raise money for The American Cancer Society. Mike Miller with Giant Eagle said the fundraiser started 26 years ago as an idea by the late Ed Bratton, which has continued to grow throughout the years.
Several fundraisers have been held in advance of this year’s Grocers Fight Cancer day, including several “meal deal” days where Giant Eagle sold dinners for $5. Today, you’ll see several raffles along with some demos, a blood pressure check station, information on healthy eating along with the celebrity baggers, and this year a new fundraiser has been added as a dunk tank will be set up outside for some of the celebrities to “cool off” by getting dunked.
Among the activities planned is a survivor’s table. Amanda Strittmatter with Grocers’ Fight Cancer says it will help survivors meet each other and remind them that they are not alone in their fight.
Grocers Fight Cancer will go on all day today at Giant Eagle. Your Hometown Radio Station will broadcast from Giant Eagle starting at 11:00 today.
