IUP President Michael Driscoll says he’s pleased with the increase in freshman enrollment this fall and with their academic quality. And he says the university has set new goals for the retention and persistence of those students. Retention refers to the number of freshmen who return for a second year, and persistence measures the number who actually graduate.
IUP’s freshman enrollment is 2,481, an increase of 146 over last year. The number of military-affiliated students is up as well, to 913. That’s 94 more than last year.
The total fall headcount at IUP this fall is 12,316, which is an overall drop of 537 students from the figures reported last fall. Including non-credit students, the enrollment figure is 12,562, off 552 from last fall’s 13,114.
IUP says last year’s large graduating class played a role in the drop in enrollment. Driscoll says the increase in new freshmen is an indication that the university is on target with its new programs.
The average high school grade point average for IUP’s freshman class is 3.24, wqith an average SAT score of 1011.
And what are IUP’s students studying? In order of enrollment, they are enrolled in the Health and Human Services, the Eberly College of Business and Information Technology, Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Humanities and Social Sciences Education and Educational Technology, and Fine Arts.
