Comments continue to pour in regarding the injury to former PITT safety Damar Hamlin, who was rushed to the hospital last night after going into cardiac arrest during Monday night’s game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Buffalo Bills.
One of them was from Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, who cited a personal connection with Hamlin during his weekly news conference this afternoon. Tomlin said he’s known the McKees Rocks native since he was 12 and that he admires the type of individual Hamlin became over the years.
Tomlin adds that he personally reached out to Bills’ coach Sean McDermott and that he and the entire team continue to pray for Hamlin and his family.
Another comment came from Pat Narduzzi, Hamlin’s former coach at PITT. Narduzzi said:
“Damar Hamlin is far more than just a football player. He’s a loving son, brother and friend. Damar is a hero to thousands of Pittsburgh kids. Damar, we love you. We are praying for you. Pittsburgh’s always had your back. And now it’s obvious the entire country has your back, too.”
The Bills released a statement earlier this afternoon saying Hamlin spent the night in intensive care and remains in critical condition at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Hamlin’s family also released a statement thanking fans and the sports community for keeping them in their prayers during this time.
As for the game, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced that the Bengals/Bills game will not be resumed this week. The NFL also said that no decision has been made on when the game will be made up.
Additionally, no changes have been made to the Week 18 schedule.
