Defenseman Kris Letang was not on the ice yesterday at Penguins’ practice. The veteran has a lower body injury that coach Mike Sullivan said was still being evaluated. As usual, Letang led the Penguins in ice time Wednesday night in their 5-4 overtime loss to Detroit, logging 34 shifts and totaling 27 minutes, one second on the ice.
Losers of four of their last five games, the Pens kept the same four lines from Wednesday’s game intact at practice yesterday. Coach Sullivan said the team has to get back to playing the Penguins’ brand of hockey.
Sullivan says Letang and any other injured players just want to get back to the action as quickly as they can, but they have to be smart about it. He says that’s certainly the case with Letang, who just returned to the lineup after having a stroke in November.
The Penguins welcome New Jersey to PPG Paints Arena. The airtime tonight on 92.5 FM U92 is at around 7, depending on the end of the IUP men’s basketball game.
