The Pitt football team takes the field for the Sun Bowl today against UCLA, and it’s a decidedly different type of matchup than it would have been a month ago. Pitt will be missing at least eight starters who are either injured or have opted out of the game. UCLA has no opt-outs. UCLA is ranked 18th in the nation and is 9-3. Pitt is 8-4.
Panthers coach Pat Narduzzi will start Nick Patti at quarterback, replacing Kedon Slovis, who has transferred to BYU. Narduzzi says Patti is a sharp contrast to Slovis.
Narduzzi says the story of the game might be the potent UCLA running game against the Pitt run defense, which he says is still pretty good despite the absences of some of its best players.
Today’s game kicks off at 2 from El Paso, Texas. The pregame airtime is at noon on WCCS
