The Crimson Hawks came away with wins Wednesday night at UPJ, including women’s head coach Tom McConnell’s 250th career coaching win.
The woman won 58-53, followed by the men with a 100-93 win (women’s boxscore, men’s boxscore).

In the women’s game, senior guard Natalie Myers finished with 18 points and 14 rebounds to help the sixth-ranked Crimson Hawks overcome the absence of Justina Mascaro due to illness and a season-high 28 turnovers. Lexi Griggs added 14 points and Maura D’Anna barely missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.
The victory was the 15th straight for the Crimson Hawks as they improved to 17-1 overall and 12-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).
McConnell has a 165-39 (.808) record in seven seasons with the Crimson Hawks in addition to 85 wins as the Saint Francis (Pa.) head men’s coach (1992-99).
The men’s game was a shootout with IUP winning its seventh straight, as both teams shot 56 percent. The Crimson Hawks also were deadly from the foul line, knocking down 25 of 28.
Five players hit double figures, led by Armoni Foster with 26 points, including 12-12 from the foul line.
Malik Miller had 22, Dave Morris 16, Shawndale Jones 14, and Anthony White 11. Jones started the game in place of Chucky Humphries, who will be out for a few weeks with a broken bone in his hand.
The game featured the top two teams in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division with IUP extending its lead in the standings to two games. The Crimson Hawks improved to 16-1 overall and 11-1 in league play. UPJ fell to 15-4 overall and 9-3 in the conference.
IUP reached 100 points for the second time this season.
