State representative Jim Struzzi has introduced two pieces of legislation that will pay tribute to Indiana County’s famous native son.
In a news release, Struzzi announced the two House resolutions that will pay tribute to Jimmy Stewart. One resolution would designate May 20th of this year as Jimmy Stewart Day in Pennsylvania, and the other will honor the Jimmy Stewart Museum on their 25th anniversary, which will be May 25th.
Stewart won an academy award for his performance in the 1940 production of “The Philadelphia Story” and is well known for his roles as George Bailey in “It’s A Wonderful Life”, Jefferson Smith in “Mr. Smith Goes To Washington” and roles in 81 films across a career that spanned over 50 years. Stewart is also known for his military career as he enlisted in the Army Air Corps during World War 2 in 1941, and was honored with several military recognition awards, including the Air Force distinguished service medal and retired from service as a Brigadier General.
The museum has been at the Indiana Community Center above the library on the third floor for all of its 25 years of existence, and serves as a tourist location for film buffs, historians and those who love the holidays.
