Arizona Cardinals star defensive end J.J. Watt announced Tuesday morning that he plans to retire following the 2022 season.
Watt made the announcement in a tweet, saying Sunday was “his last ever NFL home game.” He was drafted out of Wisconsin by the Houston Texans in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft and spent 10 seasons there before signing with the Cardinals in 2021.
In his career, Watt earned five Pro Bowl nominations, 5 AP First-Team All-Pro nominations, the 2017 Walter Payton Man of the Year award, and the 2017 Sports Illustrated Person of the Year.
He also holds a record in Houston for most sacks in team history with 101.
The Cardinals season wraps up with two road games in Atlanta and San Francisco.
