The Indiana County Coroner’s Office has released some details about the fatal crash Monday afternoon in Montgomery Township.
County Coroner Jerry Overman, Jr. confirmed earlier reports from the state police that the young man who died was a 14-year-old riding in the back of a pickup truck driven by an 18-year-old boy. The driver of the pickup truck ran a stop sign while going south on Arcadia Road at the intersection of Moyer and Cherry Tree Road and collided with an SUV driven by an unnamed 32-year-old Cherry Tree woman. The cause of death is pending the results of an autopsy which will be performed tomorrow, but Overman has ruled the manner of death is accidental.
The 14-year-old victim, who state police say was from Commodore, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene. It’s not known if the drivers or a second passenger in the truck, a 19-year-old Smicksburg woman, were injured.
State police and the coroner’s office were assisted by Commodore and Cherry Tree fire departments.
