Despite bitter cold temperatures, fans went to Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh to relive the immaculate reception on the 50th anniversary of the event. Many were also there to pay tribute to the late Franco Harris, who passed away earlier this week at the age of 72. The ceremonies were moved to the FedEx Great Hall inside the stadium to keep people safe from the bitter cold weather. It was originally planned to be held at the immaculate reception monument outside the stadium. Ceremonies are still on to retire Harris’s iconic jersey number 32 tonight when the Steelers take on the Las Vegas Raiders.
Meanwhile those wishing to pay tribute to Harris will have an opportunity to do so next Tuesday. A public viewing will be held for Harris on December 27th at the PNC Champions Club at Acrisure stadium. The viewing will run from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., with stadium parking lots opening at 11:00 a.m. Franco’s family is asking those who want to commemorate Harris to make a donation to the Pittsburgh promise or The Franciscan Sisters of the Poor Foundation.
