The Pittsburgh Penguins western road trip continued with a hard-fought overtime victory over the Colorado Avalanche, 4-3, Friday night.
The Avalache started the scoring with Nathan MacKinnon scoring his 27th of the season at the 14:38 mark of the first period. The Pens tied it in the second with a goal by Teddy Blueger at the 13:29 mark, but Colorado would take the lead again with 1:40 to go in the second with a goal from Gabriel Landeskog.
The Pens surged in the third period, with Bryan Rust scoring at 1:14 into the period to tie it up. Evgeni Malkin gave the Pens the lead at the 15:43 mark of the third with his 13th of the season. Matt Calvert of the Avalanche would tie it up with 31 seconds left in the game.
It would take 3:19 of overtime for Jared McCann to score the game-winning goal.
