The Penguins are back in action tonight, taking on the Carolina Hurricanes at PPG Paints Arena. The ‘Canes and New Jersey Devils are tied for the top spot in the NHL Metro Division, with 46 points. The Penguins are third, with 42, a point ahead of the New York Rangers.
Pittsburgh beat the Rangers 3-2 on Tuesday night but lost to Carolina (by the same score) on Sunday.
The Penguins have scored at least one power play goal in nine consecutive games. They had two against the Rangers on Tuesday. Captain Sidney Crosby says an emphasis on creating screens in front of the other team’s goaltender has led to the resurgent power play.
Fourth line forwards Josh Archibald and Ryan Poehling were out yesterday with undisclosed injuries and assistant coach Todd Reirden labeled them both as “day to day”.
Tonight’s game faces off shortly after 7. The pregame airs on 92.5 FM U92 and the U92 Sportschannel simulcast at 6.
