Several media sources today report the death overnight of Steelers legend Franco Harris, who was just in Indiana last week as the speaker for the Chamber of Commerce annual meeting.
Harris was scheduled to be at the center of the Steelers’ celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception before this Saturday night’s game against the Raiders. He was also to have his jersey number 32 retired. His family, including his son, Dok, confirm the death.
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin says his team has a tall task ahead of it with their Christmas Eve game against the Las Vegas Raiders. They’ll have to battle a potent running Raiders game, the terrific tandem of quarterback Derek Carr and wideout Davante Adams, and not least of all, the weather.
Tomlin says he’s looking forward to a cold weather game.
Tomlin says the Steelers actually enjoy playing in frigid weather, and even consider the cold weather factor when they draft players.
Tomlin chose not to address the Steelers’ undisciplined penalties publicly, saying he preferred to keep it “in-house” but acknowledging that it was “not good”.
The injury report included safety Terrell Edmunds, with a hamstring issue; wide receiver Diontae Johnson, with a toe; and forward Derek Watt, with an ankle. Tomlin said all three should be ready for Sunday. Linebacker Myles Jack didn’t play Sunday and his status is unknown. Quarterback Kenny Pickett is in line to return from concussion protocol and should start on Saturday night.
