The Penguins rebounded from a listless start, fueled by their power play in a win last night over the New York Rangers. Paul Steigerwald reports.
Coach Mike Sullivan credited his goaltender, Tristan Jarry, for keeping the Pens in the game.
Sullivan called it a “game of two halves” after the Penguins started so slowly.
Sullivan said Jason Zucker’s return to the lineup meant a lot to the Penguins, and not just for his considerable hockey skills.
Bryan Rust provided the screen that allowed Malkin’s wrist shot to find the net on the first power play and he tipped in P.O. Joseph’s wrist shot for his 8th goal of the season. He says beating the Rangers in a Metro Division game was important.
Tristan Jarry continued a stellar season, stopping 26 of 28 Rangers shots. He is now 15-3-and-3 on the year and said he had to stay focused last night because he did not have a lot of action in his end of the ice.
Josh Archilbald sat out the game with an undisclosed lower body injury and the Penguins lost forward Ryan Poehling midway through the third period, again with an undisclosed injury.
The Penguins get a rematch with Carolina tomorrow night at PPG Paints Arena. The Hurricanes stopped the Penguins’ seven-game winning streak last Sunday night in Carolina.
