At a special meeting Tuesday night, the Homer-Center School Board accepted the resignation of a teacher that faces charges of child pornography possession.
By a vote of 7-0, the board accepted the resignation of Charles Kirkland, a 9th to 12th grade business teacher. He faces charges in Westmoreland County of child pornography, along with disseminating photos and/or film of child sex acts, and criminal use of a communications device after an investigation by the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s office. The investigation started after a Cyber Tipline report was submitted by Google about a Google drive that contained child pornography. The account and files were traced back to Kirkland.
Homer-Cemter Superintendent Ralph Cecere said after the meeting that the resignation brings this incident in the district to a close.
The board also approved hiring Michael Reilly as a substitute business teacher. He will work as long as needed until a permanent replacement is found.
