The Homer-Center School Board has called a special meeting for tonight, with three items on the proposed agenda. One of those items concerns a teacher that now faces criminal charges.
On the proposed agenda for tonight’s meeting, the board will consider approving the resignation of Charles Kirkland, a high school business teacher. Kirkland was recently charged with felony child pornography possession, disseminating photos and/or film of child sex acts, and criminal use of a communications device. The charges came from Westmoreland County district attorney Nicole Ziccarelli. The charges claimed that State Police received a cyber tip line report that Google reported suspected child pornography on one of the company’s accounts. The district attorney’s office was able to trace the files and account back to Kirkland.
In a statement issued December 11th, Homer Center superintendent Ralph Cecere Jr. that it did not appear the events transpired or were connected with the district in any way. The resignation on the agenda tonight would be retroactive to yesterday.
The other two items on the agenda include approving a substitute business teacher effective January 3rd of next year and an informational item concerning a letter of support for the borough for a grant writing project.
The meeting will be held at 6:30 tonight at the district boardroom.
