The state Public Utility Commission has released its 2022 Winter Readiness Overview, and says that according to the Readiness Report from the Energy Association of Pennsylvania, homeowners who heat with natural gas can expect higher bills.
Home heating costs are going to rise “significantly” according to the report, with an anticipated five percent increase in consumption combining with a 28 percent rise in natural gas prices compared to last year. The good news is that all of the natural gas suppliers say they have plenty of gas for the winter months.
Peoples Natural Gas and Peoples Gas, which serve a large portion of Indiana County, report that they expect an adequate gas supply, but caution that their winter plan does not protect against the recent run-up in natural gas prices. Peoples also says gas supplied for electricity generation is expected to meet the demand.
