A preliminary hearing is set for an Indiana County man charged in a fatal crash last month in Allegheny County.
25-year-old Edward Cass of Saltsburg is charged by Allegheny County Police with the crash on the “Golden Mile Highway” section of Route 286 near Pine Valley Plaza on August 6th that killed 43-year-old Beth Ann Beveridge and 17-year-old Michael Zier, both of Tarrentum. A third person, Libbie Beveridge, was also injured in the collision. Reports say that Cass’ vehicle had crossed the center lane and crashed head-on with Beveridge’s car. Investigators said that they found suspected marijuana and pills in Cass’ car, and a blood test revealed that Cass had fentanyl and THC in his system at the time.
Cass is charged with two counts of Homicide by Vehicle while DUI and involuntary manslaughter, along with single counts of aggravated assault by vehicle, aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, DUI, reckless driving, and other crimes. He turned himself in on Friday after a warrant was issued for his arrest. His hearing is set for 11:00 AM on September 29th. He remains in Allegheny County Jail as he was unable to post bail.
