The new year started with a fatal shooting in Indiana County. A Glen Campbell man is accused of killing his father in his bed early yesterday.
25-year-old Matthew Bartlebaugh was taken into custody after a standoff with the State Police Special Emergency Response Team (SERT).
Police were summoned to the home at Graham and Morris streets at around 3 AM, and learned that Bartlebaugh had shot and killed 43-year-old Jerald Bartlebaugh. Jerald’s girlfriend was also in the bed but she was unharmed.
When Matthew Bartlebaugh refused to come out, police called the SERT team. He finally surrendered at about 10 AM after police threw flashbang grenades into the home.
Authorities say Matthew Bartlebaugh suffers from mental illness and police have been called to the home in the past. He will be arraigned before District Judge Guy Haberl on a charge of criminal homicide.
