At Steelers practice yesterday, quarterbacks Mitch Trubisky and Mason Rudolph both took turns running the first team offense, with Kenny Pickett a limited participant as he continues to be listed in concussion protocol.
Tight end Pat Freiermuth, running back Najee Harris, linebacker Myles Jack, and defensive lineman Larry Ogunjobee all sat out with nagging injuries. Cornerback Cam Sutton was limited with a neck stinger.
Defensive lineman Chris Wormley was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury that will require surgery. Defensive lineman Jonathan Marshall was signed off the New York Jets’ practice squad to take Wormley’s place on the active roster.
Wormley’s absence is notable because he has been one of the few bright spots on the defense, and the Steelers need all the help they can get trying to stop other teams’ rushing attacks. They gave up 215 yards rushing to Baltimore last Sunday.
Linebacker Alex Highsmith says it’s as much a mental thing as a physical problem.
Defensive lineman Montravius Adams says Wormley is a big loss to the Steelers, but they have the guys to take his place on the defensive line.
