The Steelers had major failures in all three aspects of the game yesterday and lost to Baltimore, 16-14. Mitch Trubisky threw three interceptions in relief of Kenny Pickett, the defense gave up 215 yards rushing, and the special teams committed crucial mistake with a 17-yard punt by Pressley Harvin III and the failure to block Calais Campbell leading to a blocked Chris Boswell field goal attempt.
Coach Mike Tomlin says the mistakes were too much to overcome.
Tomlin says throwing three interceptions deep in Ravens’ territory was devastating.
The Ravens’ running attack led by J.K. Dobbins slashed huge holes in the Steelers’ run defense, including a 6-yard run by Gus Edwards on third-and-3 just before the two-minute warning, ending any chance of a Steelers comeback. Defensive lineman Cam Heyward says the defense has to get off the field and give the offense one more shot.
Linebacker Myles Jack says the defense has to be better
Trubisky entered the game on the third offensive series after Kenny Pickett was pulled from the game because of concussion protocol. Pickett took a hit on the first possession and played one more series before he became symptomatic. The Steelers also lost defensive lineman Chris Wormley with a knee injury.
The Steelers are 5-8 with four games left: at Carolina on Sunday, at home against the Raiders on Christmas Eve, at Baltimore on New Year’s Day, and at home against Cleveland to close the season on January 8th.
The Bengals beat the Browns, 23-10. Cincinnati and Baltimore top the AFC North, both at 10-4, while the Steelers and Browns are both 5-8.
The Cardinals host the Patriots tonight for Monday Night Football to close out week 14 of the NFL season.
