The newest Pennsylvania Flu Report shows 6,398 lab-confirmed cases reported across the commonwealth, with flu officially reported in 65 of the 67 counties. That’s an increase of 974 cases in just one week.
Indiana County’s flu roundup includes eighteen cases…four of Type A and fourteen of Type B. There are no Type U cases reported so far in Indiana County.
There have been 144 hospital admissions for flu-related illnesses across the state and there have been seven deaths. In addition, the state Health Department reports the number of outpatient visits for flu-like symptoms has exceeded the threshold for “epidemic” status.
The Flu Report counts only laboratory-confirmed cases of flu, so it’s likely that it’s more widespread. Many people self-treat the flu and many doctors treat it as flu without confirming through a lab.
