The state Public Utility Commission has approved two rate increases for Pennsylvania American Water Company customers. The combined effect will be a hike of $38.76 in the monthly bills for residents who use both Pennsylvania American’s water and wastewater services.
The PUC approved an increase of $8.76 in water rates and $30 in wastewater rates. The new water rate is lower than the rate requested by the company while the wastewater increase is higher than the company’s request. The combined increases total 16.6 percent and will provide the company with more than $138 million in annual revenue. Pennsylvania American had requested a combined increase of 20.8 percent.
Other aspects of the settlement will be the company’s commitment to consumer assistance and customer service issues, and water main extension projects.
Pennsylvania American serves customers in 37 counties, including Indiana County.
