Today will be a busy day on campus as IUP holds commencement exercises for the winter semester today.
Students and their families are expected to be on campus for commencement ceremonies that will start at 9:30 for the graduate students at Fisher Auditorium and at 1:00 PM for undergraduate students at the KCAC. A total of 656 students are eligible to participate in today’s ceremonies. This includes students who are completing their degrees either this month or in January. Of the 656 students, 453 are bachelor’s degree candidates, 161 are master’s degree candidates, 38 are doctoral candidates and four are associate degree candidates. 173 students will graduate with a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or better, earning them latin honors.
The keynote speaker for both ceremonies will be IUP 2019-2020 Distinguished University Professor Dr. R. Scott Moore, a professor of history. Braden Appleman, a communications media production graduate from Roaring Springs, will be the student speaker for the undergraduate commencement, while Debonair Oates-Primus, a doctoral graduate in literature and criticism, will speak at the graduate commencement. Three regional students will receive recognition for 4.0 grade point averages during the undergraduate ceremonies: Anna Manges, a biology major and geology minor from Indiana; Nicholas Mays, a political science major from Northern Cambria, and Natasha Pletcher, a natural sciences major with minors in biology and biomedical science from Johnstown.
Those going through Indiana County today will experience some heavier than normal traffic during the commencement ceremonies and also around some of the dormitories, as move-outs for the holiday break continue today.
