As Hurricane Irma begins to approach Florida, many people are beginning to prepare for the landfall of one of the largest storms in recent history.
Irma has already hit the Bahamas and Haiti and is now on its way to Florida as a category 4 hurricane. Evacuations have already started along the coasts of Florida and Georgia, while those more towards the inland side are buttoning down for the storm. Among those making preparations is Lauren Klinefelter, formerly of Homer City, who lives in Hollywood, Florida, which is in one of the projected paths of Hurricane Irma. She said that some of the essentials, like water and gasoline, have been hard to get. In fact, she had to wait four days to get gasoline for her car.
Klinefelter, the daughter of Dana and Kitty Henry of Homer City, works for a hotel on the coast, and that hotel has already evacuated and closed in preparation for the hurricane’s impact. Hurricane Irma is expected to make landfall this weekend.
