IUP is getting ready to hold winter commencement ceremonies this Saturday.
Undergrads will have their ceremony at the KCAC starting at 1:00 PM while graduate students will have their ceremonies at 9:30 AM at the IUP Performing Arts Center’s Fisher Auditorium. A total of 656 students will take part in both ceremonies. Students completing degrees in December and January are eligible to take part in Saturday’s ceremonies. Dr. R. Scott Moore, a professor of history and IUP’s 2019-2020 Distinguished University Professor will serve as the keynote speaker for both ceremonies. The student speaker for the undergraduate ceremony is Braeden Appleman of Roaring Springs, who is graduating suma cum laude with a degree in communications media production. For the graduate ceremony, the student speaker will be Debonair Oates-Primus of Philadelphia, who will receive her doctorate in literature and criticism.
During the ceremonies, three students will be honored for having 4.0 grade point averages throughout their collegiate careers. They include Anna Manges, a biology and geology major from Indiana; Nicholas Mays, a political science major from Northern Cambria; and Natasha Pletcher of Johnstown, who majored in natural sciences with a minor in biology and biomedical science.
