State Police report that across Pennsylvania, fewer people were killed and injured in crashes investigated over the Labor Day travel period.
Police say over the official holiday driving period, which this year was September 1st to the 4th, four people were killed and 216 others were injured in 794 crashes that were investigated by police. In the same period in 2016, 11 people were killed and 223 people were injured in 704 crashes, reflecting a decrease in injuries and fatalities. There was also a decrease in the number of alcohol-related fatalities, where one person died in an alcohol-related crash, but the number of alcohol-related crashes went up to 90.
Police also made 552 DUI arrests, issued 12,640 speeding tickets, issued 125 citations for child safety seat violations, and 769 seat belt citations.
While not broken down by county, statistics were broken down by troop. For Troop A, which serves Indiana County, there were no fatal crashes, but they investigated 42 crashes, including 7 that were alcohol related. Sixteen people were injured in those crashes.
These numbers do not include any crashes investigated by local police forces.
