An eventful second period and stout defense on the penalty kill helped lift the Penguins to a 4-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets last night at PPG Paints Arena.
Paul Steigerwald has the recap.
Returning to the lineup last night was Sidney Crosby, who missed practice on Monday due to illness, and he picked up back-to-back goals in the second period. Coach Mike Sullivan credited Crosby by saying he’s “a much wiser version of himself.”
Goaltender Tristan Jarry had an outstanding game in net, making 29 of 30 saves. Additionally, he converted five saves on the Power Play and four shorthanded saves. He said his performance was fueled by the help of his offense.
Winger Bryan Rust picked up two points in the game: one goal and one assist. He was also on the ice during most penalty kill minutes last night and he said the Penguins were attentive each time they were down a man.
The Penguins have won each of their first three meetings in December and return to action Friday as they start back-to-back weekend games against the Buffalo Sabres.
