At his weekly news conference yesterday, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin previewed this week’s upcoming matchup against AFC North rival Baltimore.
The Ravens announced on Tuesday that quarterback Lamar Jackson will miss Sunday’s game, along with an additional two weeks, as he deals with a ligament sprain in his knee. Starting in his place will be back-up Tyler Huntley, who started against Pittsburgh in the final week of the 2021 season.
Tomlin knows the kind of game Huntley brings, which features a lethal combination of speed and arm strength, which he says is something his team needs to be ready for.
Tomlin also knows that the Ravens defense is something they need to be ready for from the opening kick-off.
During a Q&A with reporters, Tomlin was asked to comment on the behavior shown by rookie wide receiver George Pickens, who was seen mouthing the words “pass me the ball” throughout the duration of Sunday’s game against Atlanta. The behavior consequently drew the attention of local and national media.
The coach wasn’t buying into the press, however. He said Pickens is a competitive player and wants to contribute, which is something he admires.
Tomlin also addressed the team’s injury report, which seemingly grew after Sunday’s game. T.J. Watt will practice in limited capacity as he continues to deal with a rib injury. Defensive lineman Larry Ogunjobi will also be limited.
Offensive lineman Chuks Okorafor injured his shoulder on Sunday, so he will also be limited.
On a positive note, kicker Chris Boswell and cornerback William Jackson III are eligible to come off injured reserve this week. Tomlin didn’t have an exact update on either one on Tuesday.
Sunday’s game between the Steelers and Ravens kicks off at 1 p.m. on WDAD.

The Rams are adding another former top draft pick to their quarterback room. Los Angeles claimed Baker Mayfield off waivers on Tuesday. Mayfield was released by the Panthers earlier this week after struggling in his first season with the team. The Rams will pay Mayfield $1.35 million for the rest of this season. Los Angeles has been without starter Matthew Stafford for multiple games this season and he’s currently on injured reserve.
