A Northern Cambria Man was taken into custody by State Police on Wednesday after he allegedly stole an SUV in Green Township.
Troopers say they were called out to a home on Palm Road in Green Township. The victim, identified only as a 67-year-old woman from Northern Cambria called 911 to report that an unknown barefoot man approached her, shoved her to the ground and stole the 2011 Honda CR-V she was cleaning the snow off of outside her home. While gathering statements, police identified 32-year-old Matthew Brillhart as a potential suspect, and learned he was possibly in the area of Airport Road. Around 11:50 AM, an Indiana Patrol Unit found the stolen vehicle along Airport Road near Sadler Drive, and it was unattended. Moments later, police say that someone matching Brillhart’s description was seen fleeing into a wooded area from the back of a nearby garage. Authorities found Brillhart in the wooded area and he was taken into custody without incident at 12:10 PM.
Brillhart faces charges of Robbery of a motor vehicle, simple assault and one count of driving on a suspended license. He is also charged with three counts of reckless endangerment and two counts of endangering the welfare of children for not properly caring for two children, ages seven and nine. He’s accused of taking the kids out for a walk in extreme weather conditions and exposing them to extreme weather elements while not properly attired.
Charges were filed before District Judge Jennifer Rega.
