A man facing charges connected with the death of a Homer-Center student pleaded guilty today in Indiana County Court.
During his Criminal Call hearing, 21-year-old Joseph Popovich pleaded guilty to felony charges of homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence and accidents involving death or injury, along with a count of DUI-General Impairment second offense. Charges of homicide by vehicle and several other charges were not prosecuted. Those charges are connected with the death of 16-year-old Kai Hrabovsky of Homer City in May of last year. Police said that Popovich hit Hrabovsky with his Jeep while Hrabovsky was walking along a Pine Township Road in the early morning hours. Popovich continued on to his home and was found later on by state police.
Kai’s Father, Daniel Hrabovsky, made a statement saying he and his family were satisfied with what they heard this morning in court, and hope to move on and continue to honor Kai’s memory.
Popovich faces a minimum sentence of three years and a maximum sentence of 21 years in state prison for his guilty plea.
