State police have not released any new information on their search for a man who went on a crime spree on Friday afternoon in the Saltsburg area, ending with the suspect fleeing the scene of a crash in West Wheatfield Township.
Police say the young man is believed to be in his twenties, of average height and medium build, and with a shaved or bald head. He broke into a home along Main Street in Conemaugh Township and stole the keys to a black 2016 Nissan Frontier. He then drove that truck to a home along Short Lane in Young Township and was there when the woman living there returned home, finding him walking out of the home carrying her .22 caliber rifle. She fought with him over the gun, but he got away with the rifle. Next, police say, he drove to a home along Iselin Road in Young Township, where he used the rifle to break a window on the back door, but a man inside armed with a handgun told him he’d be shot if he tried to get in. He fled the scene, and police were later dispatched for an accident involving the pickup truck near Gamble Road and Germany Lutheran Cemetery Road in West Wheatfield Township. The suspect had fled, and the rifle was not in the truck.
Anyone with information is asked to call state police at 357-1960, and meanwhile, residents are urged to secure their vehicles and homes and call 911 to report suspicious activity.
