This weekend, several businesses in Downtown Indiana are taking part in Small Business Saturday as the first weekend of the holiday shopping season continues.
The date, recognized as the first Saturday after Thanksgiving, was started by American Express in 2010 as a way for people to go to local businesses instead of the big box stores. As part of the celebration, Downtown Indiana, Inc. has been a part of the movement for the past few years, and this year is no exception.
If you shop today at a participating local business, you will receive 10% of your purchase back in “Downtown Dollars”, which are spendable like cash at any of the participating businesses during the month of December. The Participating businesses include:
- 7th Street Marketry
- The 700 Shop
- 9th Street Deli
- Benjamin’s Restaurant
- Book Nook
- Brunzies
- The Coney
- Diamond Drugs
- Europa
- The Finery
- Gingerbread Man Running Company
- H.B. Culpeppers
- The Jimmy Stewart Museum
- Lucy Rae Gifts
- Luxenberg’s
- Michael B. Shoes

The Downtown Dollars expire on December 31st.
The Small Business Saturday activities have been incorporated into this weekend’s First Commonwealth Bank “It’s A Wonderful Life” Festival in Downtown Indiana. Also as part of the festival, the Indiana County Chamber Young Professionals Organization will hold a Small Business Saturday in IRMC Park from 10 AM to 2 PM.
