Many people now make it a tradition to head out to the stores on Thanksgiving night to get the first chance to get deals on holiday shopping, and last night, hundreds of people in Indiana County turned out at several of the major retailers to make the first purchases of the holiday shopping season.
Both the Indiana and Blairsville Walmart stores were packed with Thanksgiving night shoppers as they picked up deals on multiple hot-ticket items. While their sales started at 6 PM, some stores opened earlier than that for Thanksgiving. Sherry Renosky of the Indiana Mall said that both JC Penny, who opened at 2:00 PM, and Kohl’s, who opened at 5:00 PM, had a lot of business on Thursday.
Renosky added that stores inside the mall had lines as well on Thursday. As far as sales for today go, Renosky said for Black Friday, she expects sales to be brisk, but not as strong as past years.
Shopping is expected to continue tomorrow with a focus on local businesses on small business Saturday, and Monday, the focus will turn to the online marketplace for cyber Monday.
