Penguins General Manager Ron Hextall announced this afternoon that defenseman Kris Letang will be “out indefinitely” after he suffered his second stroke on Monday.
Hextall added in a statement that Letang was taken to a hospital on Monday after reporting symptoms to the team’s medical staff.
Head coach Mike Sullivan told reporters that Letang’s future is “encouraging” after undergoing evaluations.
Sullivan added that Letang is “in good spirits” after the stroke, saying he was eager to skate in today’s practice.
The 35-year-old suffered his first stroke in 2014 and missed two months of the season as a result. The strokes stem from a diagnosis showing that Letang was born with a tiny hole in the wall of his heart, according to ESPN.
No word on how much time he will miss.
