Indiana County’s unemployment rate increased in October.
The State Department of Labor and Industry says that the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for Indiana County went up seven-tenths of a percentage point in October to 5.5 percent. That ties Indiana County with Clearfield and two other counties at 48th among the state’s 67 counties. The lowest unemployment rate in the region was Westmoreland County’s rate, which is at 4.8 percent. Jefferson County is at 4.9 percent, Cambria County has a 5.2 percent unemployment rate and Armstrong County was the highest in the region with 5.6 percent.
The number of total non-farm jobs in the county increased by 300 in October to 32,900 jobs. The increase was due to education-related super sectors. Over the year, jobs were up by 100 in the county.
The statewide unemployment rate is currently 4.2%, an increase of two tenths of a percentage point, and the national rate is at 3.6%, an increase of one-tenth of a percentage point in October.
