Last night, the Marion Center School Board heard from the district’s principals on the 2019 data for state assessments.
While the district’s elementary schools are seeing mostly strong upwards trends in state assessment measures along with growth, the Marion Center Jr.-Sr. High School is seeing downward trends in percent proficient in English-Language Arts, percent proficient in math and academic growth in math. While there is an upward trend in academic growth in English-Language Arts, the district has not met the statewide goal or interim target set by the Department of Education. Superintendent Clint Weimer said they have concerns across the district.
In other business, the board approved the second reading of ten policies. The policies are being updated with current language from the Pennsylvania School Boards Association. The board also approved making a $2500 donation to the Marion Center Park Association, and they also accepted with regret the retirement notice of Karen McMillen, who is retiring after over 29 years of service to the district.
