Coach Joe Lombardi’s IUP men’s basketball team completed its non-conference season Saturday night with a 65-60 win over New Haven at the KCAC. With one exception, every game left in the regular season will be a PSAC game, starting this weekend with crossover games at Mansfield Friday night and Bloomsburg on Saturday.
IUP beat Concord, Winston-Salem State, Bowie State, Walsh, and New Haven in its non-conference schedule. Lombardi expects that at least three of those teams (Winston-Salem State, Walsh, and New Haven) could qualify for the NCAA Division II tournament this season.
The coach says that while the team needs to continue to grow and mature, he likes what he’s seen so far.
The IUP women completed their non-conference schedule at 4-0 with Wednesday’s win over Ohio Dominican. The women’s and men’s teams will play doubleheaders the rest of the way, including a non-conference DH on December 11th, when the women will play Goldey Beacom at the KCAC and the men will take on Penn State-Altoona.
