Alana Cardona scored 16 points and added 10 rebounds, and Teirra Preston also had a double-double, with 11 point and 11 boards, as IUP ran its season-opening win streak to four games with a 79-61 wire-to-wire win over Ohio Dominican at the KCAC last night.
Five Crimson Hawks were in double figures. Kiera Baughman had 16, and Gina Adams and Maria Cerro each had 14. Ohio Dominican’s Gabby Stare scored 37 on 14-of-20 shooting, with five three-pointers. 21 of her points were in the first half.
It was a mistake-filled night for both teams. IUP turned the ball over 18 times but Ohio Dominican returned the favor, with 21 TO’s. IUP had 13 steals.
Next up for the Crimson Hawks are the season’s first PSAC crossover doubleheader games. They and the men’s team are at Mansfield December 2nd and Bloomsburg December 3rd.
The IUP men are ranked third in the nation in this week’s NABC coaches poll and are second in the latest D2 Sports Information Directors poll.
In the coaches poll, Northwest Missouri State and Augusta are ranked one and two. Northwest Mizzou is first in both polls.
