While not on the agenda, the issue of what to do with money received for a proposed Ben Franklin Elementary School Project is expected to be brought up tonight at the Indiana School Board meeting.
A new group, Indiana Community Voice was formed to protest one of the ideas connected with the funding, and that option is defeasment, which would void the 2016 bonds issued to the district for the proposed Ben Franklin project by essentially setting aside cash or bond money to pay back the debt. At a prior board meeting, Board President Doug Steve said that the district would save money in the long run, but some in this protest group say that defeasment will do more financial harm to the district.
Cookie Moretti, one of the group’s members, says the money would be best used for upgrades to programs in the schools, and even upgrades to the Ben Franklin school itself.
Tonight’s meeting starts at 7:30 at the East Pike Complex.
