State Representative Jim Struzzi was named to serve on the board of directors for the Pennsylvania Parks and Forest Foundation on Tuesday.
According to a news release, Struzzi has a history of supporting legislation geared towards environmental protection. One recent piece is House Bill 2528 which focuses on the cleanup of abandoned oil and gas wells across the state. The Bill was created after an Indiana County business was denied the opportunity to bid on work to deal with Pennsylvania’s thousands of abandoned wells due to DEP policies. Because of these policies, the majority of well-plugging contracts were outsourced to non-PA companies, which he said made no sense due to the amount of highly-skilled workers in the state that can perform the work instead.
That Bill was signed into law as Act 136 of 2022 earlier this year.
Other environmental efforts include co-authoring legislation that would provide protections for volunteers, organizations, and those invited onto property by landowners with the goal of improving the land for recreational use.
