Last night, the Blairsville Borough Council approved a tentative 2020 budget that will hold the line on taxes for residents.
Blairsville Borough manager Tim Evans said the $2.337 million budget will see a reduction in spending of $33,000, even with health costs up five percent.
Another concern that was brought up was the price of road salt, which increased by 30 percent. Evans noted that they have 200 tons of salt stockpiled from last year.
Mayor Frank Harsh noted that there will be free parking downtown on Black Friday and the following Saturday. Harsh announced the Holiday Parade on December 7th will begin at 5:30 PM and and light up night ceremonies will follow at 7:00 PM. Donation areas for the “Stuff A Bus For Needy Families” will be available.
Council also approved a resolution to downsize the Planning Commission and Code Enforcement boards from five members to a three-member board. Council has had trouble filling vacancies on those boards.
